Training Schedule

(heading out for a run with my fuel belt- nerd alert!)
The true excitement that I am about to run 13.1 miles has actually set in!  It was January 1st of this past year that I set the goal of getting back in to running, now 1 year later and 4 days shy of my 27th birthday, I will be doing the ARIZONA ROCK 'N Roll Half Marathon- I can't contain my happiness!!  I purchased my flight to Arizona two weeks ago and now with only 7 weeks left to race day, I finally chose a training program! I searched and searched to find a program that best fit my needs.  I never quite found one I was wholly satisfied with, so I chose the one I liked the best and altered it slightly so that I felt more comfortable.  Most training programs for first time half-marathoners cap the long runs at 10 miles and I just didn't feel like that was enough training.  Seeing that I already have a base of 7.5 miles, I decided to start my long runs at 6 miles and cap at 11 miles.  Jenna, who has run this particular race twice already said that once you have hit 11 miles, the other 2.1 are nothing.  I will be meeting with her tomorrow to chat about the race, how to best prepare for the weather, pacing and nerves... oh and watching the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show!

  1. Woo Hoo go Jeni! Don't forget to make loud huffy noises during the last 1.1 mile (both of my half marathons I encountered people doing this...I think they sounded like horses, so I didn't do it!) P.S.- I think my friend just inspired me to take on a marathon in May. I started this weekend with 8 miles...ugh

  2. I can't wait!!! i don't want to rush the holidays but so excited!!!! Your training program looks great. You really won't have any problem with the run. Just make sure you bring some throw away clothes b/c it will be cold when you start. You stand around for at least an hour before you start. It will take you a least 1/2 hour to get to the start line after the race starts. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!
